Information on adding a Z-Wave interface to the Z-Wave Plus Plugin

Overview

Use the process below to add a Z-Wave interface/controller to Z-Wave Plus.

Compatible Interfaces

The Z-Wave Plus plugin uses Z-Wave JS and is compatible with all known 500, 700, and 800 series Z-Wave Interfaces.

Procedure

Navigate to:
Plugins > Z-Wave Plus > Add Network

Step 1: Instance Type

Choose a Z-Wave JS instance type.

  • Internal - Recommended

  • External – Advanced
For more information about external Z-Wave JS instances, refer to Z-Wave JS on GitHub.

Click Continue.

Step 2: Settings

Internal

  1. Enter a Network Friendly Name. This name will be displayed within HS4 and Z-Wave Plus.

  2. Choose a connection type

  3. Click Continue.

Serial Port

Select this option if your Z-Wave interface is connected directly to the system running HS4.

Use the Serial Port dropdown to select the appropriate port.

  • Windows: Select a COM port (e.g., COM3).

  • Linux: Port assignment in Linux can vary depending on the OS version. In most cases, USB devices are assigned numbers based on the order in which they are connected (e.g., /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1, /dev/ttyUSB2, etc.).

Z-NET

Use this option if you are using a HomeSeer Z-NET with find.homeseer.com enabled. Z-NET is a network-connected controller that sends and receives Z-Wave and Zigbee(with USB adapter) commands over your LAN.

When selected, a Z-Net dropdown menu will appear, listing any Z-NETs found via find.homeseer.com. Select your Z-Net.

Network (TCP, mDNS)

Use this option for a network-based Z-Wave Interface, or A Z-NET where find.homeseer.com is disabled.

You’ll need to enter the network address manually using the following format:

tcp://<IPAddress>:<Port>

Example: tcp://192.168.1.100:2001

When using a Z-Net or other network adapter, a network port is used along with the IP address of the adapter. Use port2001for the Internal Z-Net interface or2002 or 2003for any USB interface connected to a Z-Net.

Internal

The Internal Option is reserved for the HomeTroller Pi and legacy HomeTroller Zee S2 controllers. This option automatically connects to the internal Z-Wave interface on the hardware.

External

  1. Enter a Network Friendly Name. This name will be displayed within HS4 and Z-Wave Plus.

  2. Enter the IP address of the External Z-Wave JS server.

  3. Enter the Websocket Port

  4. Enter the Front End Port

  5. Click Continue.

Step 3: Security Keys Configuration

Select your security keys configuration method

  • Generate random security keys - For new Networks

  • Import security keys from legacy Z-Wave plugin - For use when migrating from Z-Wave v4. For more information, click here.

  • Enter security keys manually - For use when migrating from a separate system.

Click Continue

Step 4: Security Keys Information

This step confirms your choice from step 3. If you chose Generate random security keys or Import security keys from legacy Z-Wave plugin, proceed by clicking Continue.

If you choose to Enter security keys manually, you will be prompted to enter your key information and then click Continue.

Step 5: Verify

If prompted, review the displayed information and click Continue.

Step 6: Wait

Z-Wave Plus will install, configure, and start a new Z-Wave JS instance or connect to an external instance. You can view this process in the on-screen log.

Step 5: Done

Click Finish. You’ll be taken to the Devices page. Click here to learn how to begin adding devices.
