Add Unsecure

Information on adding a device using the unsecure inclusion method of Z-Wave.

Overview

It can be advantageous to add Z-Wave devices using the non-secure method for a few reasons. It can allow for battery-powered devices to conserve battery power as they will need to send and receive less data, and there are a small handful of devices which do not work correctly unless added with the unsecure option.

Navigation

Access the Manage Interfaces page from Plugins > Z-Wave > Adva

ced Functions

Procedure

  1. From the Advanced Functions page, select Add Unsecure in the drop-down menu, then click Continue.
  2. Click Start and wait until you see the message "Activate the 'Add to Network' function on the device...". Manually activate this function on the hardware you are attempting to add. If you are unsure of how to activate the 'Add to Network' function, consult the documentation for your device.
  3. The system will log the process of adding your device and move along to step 4 once it is complete. Press Details to review these logs if you like. Click Finish and you will be returned to the Devices page.

Notes

  • While adding a device with the Unsecure option will not cause any harm to your device or HS4, it is recommended to use the regular inclusion method for most devices.
