Overview

Users who wish to migrate or upgrade from their existing HomeTroller Zee S2, Pi or Pi G3 hub to a HomeTroller Pi G8 hub can easily accomplish this by following this guide.

Note that “interface” and “controller” are interchangeable terms that refer to the Z-Wave module (“HAT”) that’s physically installed on the HomeTroller hub.

Requirements

  • HomeTroller Pi G8

  • Z-Wave Plus plugin v1.0.10.0 or later

  • 500 series upgrade kit and the legacy Z-Wave plugin are required for HomeTroller Zee S2 and early HomeTroller Pi hubs flash with Z-Wave SDK v6.51.

Steps

The following steps are for users migrating from a HomeTroller Zee S2 or older HomeTroller Pi flashed with Z-Wave SDK v6.51. If your hub is flashed with SDK v6.81 or higher, skip to step #8.

  1. Ensure that the HomeSeer V4 (legacy) Z-Wave plugin is installed and enabled for your hub.

  2. Navigate to Plugins > Z-Wave > Advanced Functions and select Backup Interface. Take note of the file name (or rename it if you like) and start the backup.

  3. Remove the older Z-Wave controller (“HAT”) from your hub and install a newer 500 series controller (with SDK version 6.81). Refer to the Upgrading HomeTroller Zee S2 or HomeTroller Pi to 800 Series Z-Wave for details (and a video demonstration) concerning this step.

  4. Navigate to Plugins > Z-Wave > Manage Interfaces, disable and delete the existing interface, then add a new interface to connect to your newer controller.

  5. Disable, then Enable the V4 Z-Wave plugin to initialize the newer controller.

  6. Navigate to Plugins > Z-Wave > Advanced Functions and select Restore Interface from Backup. Select the backup file that was created in step 2 above and click START. Wait for this process to finish.

  7. Disable the V4 plugin and enable the Z-Wave Plus plugin. Follow the steps in the next section to migrate from the newer 500 series controller to the G8 controller.

The following steps are for users migrating from newer 500 series or 700 series hubs flashed with SDK v6.81 or higher.

  1. Ensure that your existing 500 or 700 series hub is running and working with the Z-Wave Plus plugin. If you’re new to the Z-Wave Plus plugin and have not already set it up, see Setting Up the Z-Wave Plus Plugin to set that up now.

  2. Navigate to Plugins > Z-Wave Plus > Advanced Functions and select Backup Interface. Go through the steps to create your backup file and save it. Remember the name of this file; you’ll need it soon!

  3. Navigate to Tools > Backup/Restore and click BACKUP NOW. A system backup will commence. This may take several minutes to complete.

  4. Navigate to Tools > Backup/Restore and click LOCAL RESTORE. Click the Select Date field and choose today’s date. Select the backup you just created and click the Download link to download the backup to the downloads folder of your computer.

  5. Disconnect the power and network cables from you old hub. Refer to the Quick Start Guide for HomeTroller Pi to get started with your new HomeTroller Pi G8 hub.

  6. Navigate to Tools > Backup/Restore and click LOCAL RESTORE, then click UPLOAD BACKUP. Browse your computer and select the backup zip file that was downloaded in step 10 above.

  7. Once the backup has finished uploading to your G8 hub, click the radio button to the left of it and click the EXECUTE button. This will restore the backup to you new hub.

  8. Once the restore has finished, navigate to Tools > System > Restart System and RESTART the hub.

  9. After the restart, ensure that the Z-Wave Plus plugin is installed and connected to your Z-Wave interface.

  10. Navigate to Plugins > Z-Wave Plus > Advanced Functions and select Restore Interface. Select the Z-Wave controller backup that was created in step 8 above.

  11. Go through the steps to restore the backup file to your G8 controller. Wait for this process to finish.

  12. Navigate to Plugins > Manage and restart the Z-Wave Plus plugin by disabling and then enabling it. If the migration was successful, you should now be able to monitor and control your Z-Wave devices.
