Installation
On a HomeSeer system
Drivers: SmartStick G8 is a virtual COM device with a USB port connection. It uses the CH9102 VCP chip. A software driver is required to allow SmartStick G8 to work. Windows 10 and 11 should automatically acquire the driver but if you’re using Windows 7 or 8, the driver is available on homeseer.com/downloads (SmartStick G8 Driver). Linux-based hubs should already be equipped with the appropriate drivers.
Physical Installation: Simply attach SmartStick G8 to a USB port on your hub or system. If the driver is installed, a COM port number will be assigned by the operating system. To confirm this, open your Windows Device Manager and expand the Ports section. Your SmartStick G8 will appear as a USB-Enhanced-Serial CH9102 device. In the example above, Windows has assigned COM port #3 to this SmartStick G8. Your COM port may be different.
Refer to the appropriate documentation for managing Z-Wave interfaces to complete your installation on HomeSeer systems:
Z-Wave Plugin: docs.homeseer.com/products/z-wave
Z-Wave Plus Plugin: docs.homeseer.com/products/z-wave-plus
On a non-HomeSeer system
SmartStick G8 is a static bridge controller that uses the Z-Wave serial API. Check the manual or user guide for your system for details on how to add a Z-Wave USB interface to your system.
Migrating From Another Interface
HomeSeer and Home Assistant users can migrate to the SmartStick G8 from any 500 or 700 series controller by following the steps in SmartStick G8 Migration Guide.
